Just a little about Facil: “

In 2012 Dallas started at Finca, a farm-to-table restaurant, eventually becoming Finca’s Chef de Cuisine. It was here that he was able to cultivate his fervent love of rich and diverse ethnic flavors and appreciate the elegance of poor man’s food. The restaurant also introduced him to many local farmers and purveyors of the region, many of whom he forged a friendship with and sources of ingredients for Fácil.  In 2015 Dallas became Chef de Cuisine of Pago, A restaurant focused on local artisans and American cuisine, a place where Dallas sharpened his culinary craft creating a daring and unique daily chef tasting menu. The menu was ever-evolving, ever-changing, reflecting the best seasonal ingredients and always paying homage to the local purveyors that had provided the fare.

With Fácil, Dallas and his team will continue to exercise his creative culinary brand while also raising the bar on Utah’s food truck scene. Incorporating the same farm-to-table principles, Fácil sources locally, ethically and responsibly. These are good ingredients rigorously selected at the height of freshness, made even more appealing dressed in all artisan-ally crafted products, placed atop a sexy, made-from-scratch tortilla.  Think of it as a reverse colonization, where Mexico settles into Salt Lake and everything becomes instantly more appealing when eaten off a well-built tortilla!

Day of the Dead Party

Celebrate the lives of the departed. We’ll have live music. Facil Taqueria will be here with their food truck and their farm fresh delicacies. We will have tables set up to display photos, so bring pictures of your deceased loved ones.

Costume contest: Day of the Dead attire.

Tatto Contest: Day of the Day theme.

The back story: Day of the Dead is a blend of an acient Indigenous Mexican holiday with the Catholic All Saints Day (honors all saints especially those who don’t have their own holiday) and All Souls Day (honoring our departed loved ones). To this day, in Central and Southern Mexico indian villages come together in celebrations. Altars are built, photos are brought out. Sugar skulls are made. In Indian mythology, on the day of the Dead the heavens open up and souls come down at midnight to spend the day with the living relatives. Cementaries are visited, graves polished. Offerings are made to the “spirits” as they believe that happy spirits offer protection and bring good luck.

Chef/Owner Dallas Olson began his career as a real “rolling stone” of the food and beverage industry. Working as a traveling chef spending the summer in Alaska cooking at the Hotel and Lodge Resurrection Roadhouse and winters in Utah at The Aerie at Snowbird. These early years cemented his intense passion for food, skilled him in from scratch cooking and technique, and taught him the art of butchery. Over the next few years he worked in a variety of notable Salt Lake kitchens including The Wild Grape and The Grand America where he held the title of Chef De Partie.

“UNDER A DARK MOON”

Juana Ghani shows are known for fabulously infectious music that is “a savage, unrestricted mix of tradition, overlaid with rocking dynamism, suffused with unstoppable gypsy lust and dark desire, with an added touch of punk attitude.” (Tim Carroll, FolkWords) Accompanied by the area’s most amazing belly dancers and performance artists, it is more than a concert; it is a show. And Juana Ghani is more than a band; they are a community.

Hectic Hobo performances immediately engage the audience, sucking them in and not letting them go until the last cymbal crashes. Hectic Hobo is the fun that everyone wants to have but doesn’t dare. Theo McNamatar of The Regal Seagull says “Hectic Hobo makes you feel you’ve been at a Devotchka concert on an Irish pirate ship. And you will do anything to keep from getting back to port.”

$10 at the door.  $8 with advance purchase or if you come in costume.  Secure your place at the party now.

Located in an abandoned meat packing plant, Shades of Pale brings to mind the Speakeasies of yesteryear. Enter the building from West Temple and follow the signs directing you to the Tap Room where the fun begins. With a half dozen handcrafted beers brewed in-house on tap and an incredible underground ambience, the venue promises as much excitement as the event itself.
